THE SANCTUARY
In your home there should be a corner you can call your own, a sort of sanctuary that allows you to completely relax and re-energize. Identify this place if you can and then just sit there and look around you. Look carefully at all the elements in the near vicinity and, for each one, ask yourself the question: does this chair, this painting, this color on the wall really match my own tastes; is it what I really want to have around me right now; does it say something about who I am?
Certain elements are likely to match your mood spontaneously, while others may well reveal just what it is you are missing so badly. The desk where all those papers are piled signifies your need for organization and it may also mean you accept too many obligations. These walls that have been white for so long might betray your own incertitude when it comes to choosing an atmosphere that really suits you. That painting that you were given as a present and which you have never quite been able to go for, may not be in the right place at all.
Now remove everything that displeases you and keep only those elements that you think reflect your own taste. Choose a color scheme that corresponds to your own personality. Instinctively, like a child, go for your favorite shades. It’s your corner!
Try to keep the area as free as possible and avoid overdoing the decoration. Uncluttered space is much more conducive to relaxation. Take the time to identify those elements which are going to soothe your inner person, like the right artwork, fresh flowers, good music and fabrics that are gentle to the touch. And now, sit down and enjoy! You deserve it! |
